T1000™ Fine Overlay

T1000™ Fine Overlay is a polymer modifi ed, cementitious topping designed for resurfacing and texturing stable, non-moving concrete fl oors, walls and hardscapes. T1000™ Fine Overlay may be applied with a splatter brush or hopper gun for a sprayable application. T1000™ Fine Overlay may be applied vertically or horizontally over stencils or without stencils. Application thickness ranges from 1/16 inch (1.5mm) to a maximum of 3/16 inch (4.5mm). For a successful project familiarize yourself with the product before an actual job site application.

Uni-Mix® Color Packs, Perma-Cast® Sierra Stain™ and Elements™ Transparent Concrete Stain are compatible with T1000™ Fine Overlay. Refer to the Uni-Mix® Integral Concrete Color, Perma-Cast® Sierra Stain™ and Elements™ Transparent Concrete Stain Coloring System Guides for a complete representation of integral colors and concrete stains to be used in conjunction with this product.

THIS GUIDE IS INTENDED TO PROVIDE A GENERAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRODUCT INSTALLATION PROCESS. BEFORE USING, READ AND UNDERSTAND THE ENTIRE T1000™ STAMPABLE OVERLAY TECHNICAL DATA SHEET, MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET AND WARRANTY STATEMENT.

Preparation

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Cleaning: Proper surface preparation is critical to a successful application of T1000™ Fine Overlay. The concrete substrate and ambient temperature must be at 45° to 85°F (7° to 30°C). The concrete substrate must be thoroughly cleaned using high pressure water or TSP (tri-sodium phosphate) and water with a scrub brush, then rinsed thoroughly. Remove all potential bond breakers such as greases, oils, silicones, paints, sealants, curing and sealing compounds, drywall taping compound, etc. In the case of paints, sealants or overly slick hard troweled floors, mechanical removal and/or abrading by means of sanding, scarifying or shot blasting may be necessary to achieve proper bonding.

Patching: Existing cracks on the concrete slab will transfer through the T1000™ Fine Overlay. A slurry mix of T1000™ Fine Overlay and water serves as an excellent fi ller for cracks prior to the fi nal overlay installation process. If the areas are in excess of 3/16" deep, use of a larger aggregate in the slurry mix or multiple lifts of the slurry mix may be needed.

Mixing

Mixing

Mix and install when ambient temperatures are between 45°-85° F (7°-30° C). Use 4.4 quarts (4.16 L) potable water per 55-pound (25kg) bag of Butterfi eld Color® T1000™ Fine Overlay. When temperature or humidity changes affect water demand, make small adjustments to the amount of mixing water as needed to achieve proper working consistency. Do not over water. Be sure to measure water accurately. Always add water to the container fi rst. Then, if color is to be used, slowly add the Uni-Mix® Color Pack. Mix the color and water thoroughly using a 600 rpm drill and paddle or mortar mixer. Note: (If using a commercial mixer, use a mortar mixer and not a concrete mixer.) Once the color is mixed, slowly add the bag of Butterfi eld Color ® T1000™ Fine Overlay. Continue to mix for a minimum of 3 minutes until a smooth, uniform, lump-free consistency and a streak-free color has been achieved. Be consistent with the amount of water and the mixing time between batches. If mixture loses its plasticity do not retemper with water or add previously mixed material to new batches.

Base Coat

Base cOAT

A base coat is only necessary if there is a desire for a grout line color other than that of the existing concrete. If desired, the base coat should be laid down with a trowel at approximately 1/16". Use of a fresno may be needed for larger projects. T1000™ Fine overlay will cover approximately 96SF at 1/16".

Laying out Stencils

Laying out Stencils

If a base coat was applied, wait until it is completely dry before laying out the stencils. In most job site applications the time will range from 2-8 hrs. When laying out the stencils, it is recommended that you layout the entire pour before beginning to expose the adhesive backing and sticking the stencils to the concrete. This will minimize misalignment of the stencil pattern. When sticking the stencils to the base coat, be sure there are no voids between the stencil and the sub-base. If voids are present, the T1000™ Fine Overlay spray from the hopper gun may go under the stencils and discolor the grout line areas.

Applying Material

Applying Material

Test the hopper gun and the air compressor before use. Note: (Use of a Marshalltown hopper gun and a 20-35 PSI air compressor are recommended.) Load approximately ten pounds of the T1000™ Fine Overlay into the hopper gun. Be sure not to overload the hopper gun. Slowly turn on the air compressor and spray a small amount of material into a bucket while adjusting the airfl ow. Once you have the desired consistency, begin spraying the material over the surface. Keep the hopper gun approximately 12" from the surface and at a 90 degree angle from the slab. Apply an even coat over the entire slab. If a knockdown look is desired, use a steel trowel randomly over the material before it reaches final set.

After the knock down is fi nished and the material is set enough to prevent chipping on the edges, begin removing the stencils. Be sure to not to pull too hard on the stencils and to pull them off in a common direction.

Cure for a minimum of 72 hours at 70° F before opening to automobile traffic.
